My Notes 〰️ Real Weddings 〰️ Mexico’s Best-Kept Secrets. 〰️
Hi, I’m Jen — welcome to my Journal.
I’m a destination wedding planner, and for the past 17+ years I’ve been creating weddings and events all over Mexico From Cancun and Riviera Maya to Puerto Vallarta and Cabo. Along the way, I’ve picked up more than a thing or two worth sharing.
For a long time, social media was my main way of communicating, but that format only scratches the surface. There’s so much nuance, context, and behind-the-scenes of the wedding industry, insight that simply doesn’t fit into a caption.
This Journal is my space to share it all — real weddings, travel, honest advice, and the thinking that happens between the lines. I invite you to come with me as I slowly build this Journal and step into my life as a destination wedding planner… and occasionally, my personal world too.
Let the alchemy begin.
Why I Strongly Prefer Local Photographers for Mexico Weddings
After planning destination weddings in Mexico for over 15 years, I’ve learned that hiring a local photographer makes a real difference. From understanding Riviera Maya sunsets to navigating venue logistics and protecting your budget, here’s what couples should know before booking.e booking.
Is It Safe to Have a Destination Wedding in Mexico?
After recent headlines from Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara, many couples are asking: Is Mexico safe for a destination wedding? As a Mexico-born planner with family across major wedding destinations, I’m sharing a grounded perspective beyond the news cycle.
Why choosing a local photographer changes everything
When planning a destination wedding in Mexico, one decision can dramatically impact your experience: hiring a local photographer. This week, local photographer Neilyn Valero of Soul Wedding Photography shares her perspective on why understanding the light, rhythm, and logistics of places like Tulum and the Riviera Maya truly changes everything.
Let’s Talk Photographers
The Vendor Plug-In begins with one of the most important decisions you’ll make after setting your date: your photographer. This new mini-series inside The Journal explores why vendor choices aren’t random — they’re intentional integrations that shape your entire wedding experience. From timing to style to personality fit, here’s how I guide couples through one of the most meaningful investments of their destination wedding in Mexico.
Behind The Scenes Our Trash The Dress Adventure In A Cenote
Trash the Dress sessions aren’t about ruining a gown — they’re about releasing expectations and capturing something real. After the wedding day has passed, couples get the freedom to play, explore, and create imagery that feels organic, intimate, and completely theirs. In Mexico, the ocean, cenotes, jungles, and colonial streets become the perfect backdrop for a post-wedding experience that celebrates love without timelines, pressure, or rules.
Wedding Day - Part 2
After the ceremony, the wedding day shifts. This is where the energy changes, the design comes alive, and the celebration truly begins. In Wedding Day, Part Two, I’m sharing how we approached formal photos, lighting, music, and the flow of the night — along with the choices that made our wedding feel unforgettable and still feel right twelve years later.
The Ceremony We Chose
When planning our destination wedding, the ceremony itself brought up more questions than I expected. From navigating a Catholic ceremony in Mexico to deciding where and when to handle the legal marriage, this is my honest experience — what worked, what didn’t, and what I wish more couples knew before choosing their ceremony in Playa del Carmen.
The Wedding - Part 1
When you have a destination wedding, the wedding day doesn’t exist in isolation. It’s shaped by the days leading up to it—arrival, preparation, decisions, emotions, and the quiet moments that set the tone. In this first part of the wedding story, I share what happens behind the scenes and how to prepare for it with intention and calm.
The Travel Side of a Destination Wedding: The Double-Edged Sword I’d Choose Again
Destination weddings are amazing! But every benefit comes with a challenge. When Mike and I chose Playa del Carmen, the travel was intentional. It shaped our guest list, our experience, and the way our wedding unfolded long before the actual day. Looking back, I’d choose it all over again.
Our Engagement, Our Ring, and How We Chose Our Wedding Destination in Mexico
I got engaged on my birthday in the most unexpected, unpolished, and personal way. From choosing my engagement ring together to traveling through Mexico to find the place that truly felt like us, this is the story of how love, intention, and experience shaped every decision we made.
The International Blind Date That Changed My Life
An international blind date in Mexico changed my life. In this journal, I share where my story truly began — growing up between two cultures, meeting my husband through adventure and intuition, and how planning my own destination wedding shaped the way I now guide my couples.
Let’s Talk About Why the MEXpert Package Makes Sense
Many couples focus on the upfront cost of hiring a planner, especially when compared to the seemingly “free” services offered by travel agents. In this journal entry, I break down why the MEXpert Package makes sense — and how “free” often comes with the most expensive hidden price tag.
What I Pay Attention to First When I Meet a New Couple
Before we talk about venues, hotels, or budgets, there are a few quiet things I always notice when I first meet a couple. These early details tell me how to guide them well — and whether we’re the right fit to work together. Experience has taught me that when you start here, everything else flows with more clarity and confidence.
Why I Chose the Name "Mexico Wedding Alchemy"
Behind every brand name is a story. In this journal entry, I share how Mexico Wedding Alchemy came to be — and why blending culture, experience, and heart is at the center of how I plan weddings.
Alexis & Alex: Jungle Vibes meets City Girl
What happens when a rooftop built for a thousand is designed for fewer than a hundred? Alexis and Alex’s wedding proves that thoughtful guidance — not templates — is what turns a space into an experience.
The Difference Between the Illusion of Online Planning and Working With Me
As I reflected on my vision for 2026, I found myself asking how to explain what truly sets my work apart. This post shares the analogy that came to me, and the deeper reality behind planning a destination wedding in Mexico.
